There’s a bit of a boom happening right now in UK-made, handmade furniture and I’m all here for it. There’s always been a bit of a gap in the market when it comes to sofas. Yes there’s the big high street names- LOAF, Arlo & Jacob, Sofa.com and don’t get me wrong, they can be great options. Particularly now LOAF have altered the way they make their sofas following complaints on longevity and the cushions that needed plumping every 2 mins! Then there’s the creme de la creme of the sofa world- the George Smiths and Rose Uniackes - which would have to sit in their own locked room in my home, to avoid the dog and toddlers and well anyone getting anywhere near it 😂
We’ve long needed something in the middle. A beautifully-made sofa in more interesting shapes and customisable fabrics than those available on the hight street but at a more affordable price point too. Tricky to do!
Here’s a round up of small businesses championing and supporting local furniture makers and producing beautifully-designed, made to last sofas.
